You’ve probably heard the phrase:
“If you don’t make money while you sleep, you’ll work till you die”
If not, let it sink in. No seriously think about it.
The latest inflation reading came out at 8.5% so if you think you can save your way to financial freedom or retirement, think again. If you don’t know what inflation is, don’t worry, another post about it will come out soon. But it’s a way that the government takes money away from you besides taxes. Imagine in the year 2000 you put $1,000 into a savings account for the future. The year 2022 rolls around and you still have that grand, but today that only equals about $400 of the same buying power.
All of this is not to scare you, but it might. It's just the motivation you might need to go do something else besides your 9-5 (I’m not telling you to quit your job…unless you want to, then I am).
Today I’m going to show you a couple of ways you could make money in your sleep. Some, I’m sure you’ve heard of before, but my goal is to give you one you haven’t.
Stocks & Bonds
Tried, tested, and true there’s not much that can go wrong if you invest like Warren Buffet and Charlie Munger (Insert Elon tweet) (not financial advice). Most Brokerage accounts even (the app you buy stocks on) give you the option to invest daily, weekly, or monthly and deposit any amount of money you’d like.
2. Neighbor
Neighbor is an app that gives your unused storage or parking spots a purpose and then your money in your sleep. Literally. Here’s how it works, you sign up and list your space, and people in your city can rent out your unused space and store their stuff. The renters move their things in and out and you can kick back and collect a paycheck every single month.
3. Real Estate
But not in the ways you might think. A recent trend that has made many people lots of $$$ is short-term rentals. Simply said, it’s buying a place and renting it out on Airbnb or other services like it. The traditional model of renting out to a family or leasing your place is still a good idea for some. But, if you’re advantageous like me short-term rentals might be just what you’re looking for. If you truly want to make money while you sleep, you can add an Airbnb “host” and they will take care of all day-to-day operations for you!
4. Create and sell courses
You might be thinking “but what do I have to offer?” and the answer is different for everyone. But almost everyone I know has a unique talent or skill they have acquired, and some people will pay for a course or set of videos you put together teaching them how to perform that skill.
You can sell said courses on social media or any website you like. There are limitless possibilities in the age of the internet.
I encourage all of you to look into these and decide what’s best for you. After all, the only thing you should do with your money is whatever helps you sleep at night (again not financial advice).
