Good morning everyone,
If working a 9-5 for thirty years of your life only to have two days a week free and then maybe retiring on a fixed income doesn’t sound appealing to you. Then you are in the right place.
Just a heads up, this article won’t be a step-by-step guide on starting your first business, but it will talk about some of the most common tendencies and mistakes people make when starting their entrepreneurial journey.
The business you chose to start should be unique to you and your set of skills. There is no point in trying to make a complete copy of someone else’s business.
If you do, more often than not, it means you are just in it for the money, which will lead you to be uninspired and demotivated. A business you start should be something you are passionate about and wouldn’t mind spending 15 hours a day working on. (Yes, 15 hours is an exaggeration for some ,but its meant to illustrate a bigger concept)
Procrastination and Perfectionism
In my experience, whenever I had an idea about a business or some project that I was eager to start working on. I would do all of my research about the market, competitors, products, draw out the plans, but when it came to execute I would procrastinate like I was avoiding a high-school essay.
If you ever get to the planning stage and you’re worried about steps 4 & 5 and think that if you can’t get those steps right, then it’s not worth it all. You might be a slight perfectionist.
Inside the minds of these people in this circumstance, it’s very common to focus on the later stages and not step 1 because of a couple of things:
Either you could be scared that no one is going to buy your product in the first place, or maybe you are worried that you’ll never get the scale you want in the first place.
Whatever the reason is, just know it’s your brain trying to trick you into not starting.
It’s Simple: Just Start
Okay, you got me, It’s not that simple, but it can be. Disregarding the type of business model and niche (a specific group of people ) you choose, it can be as simple as just focusing on the most critical next step.
Suppose you are in a position where you have a business idea or project that you find creatively stimulating and that you are passionate about. I want you only to focus on what’s in front of you.
What I mean by this is to stop worrying about everything in the future, only worry about the things that you can do right now. I want you to know that you will fail no matter what business you are considering starting. But that’s a good thing.
As long as you can keep learning and improving every time you fail, there will be nothing that can stop you. Just don’t get discouraged if you don’t see the desired results as quickly as you might want. Rome wasn’t built in a day.
If you are thinking about starting a business, I hope that after reading today’s article, you find the courage to go out there and just start. It’s a long hard road, but I promise that eventually, the results will be worth it.
