Good morning everyone,
I am sure that by now, you have seen some motivational video, probably with famous actors doing the voice-over telling you that you must work 17 hours a day to be successful. Not only that, but the video probably said that only people who work non-stop deserve to be successful.
I am not going to lie; I have fallen victim to plenty of Instagram ads and YouTube videos that promise a private jet and millions of dollars. But essentially, what you should know is this:
Most people are only trying to sell you something.
They do not care about you.
Hustle Culture Doesn’t Care About You
For some context, these get-rich-quick schemes that hustle bros run have been around forever. Ads in phone books, TV commercials, newspaper ads, you name it, they’ve been there.
These “gurus” often only sell you the dream-like money, women, and power. It is only natural for you to feel seduced by this; it’s almost hard not to. That is because these people are purposely marketing your human desires. Not only that, but they are more importantly marketing to fear; The fear of not being successful, which is often a more powerful driving force.
On the surface, it’s semi-harmless. Just a bunch of people trying to sell other people on the idea that they can get rich and be successful. The issue is that they (most of the time) cannot do this. Whatever course they try and sell you, just know that the only money they are actually making comes from the courses they sell.
Think about it, if these people who are marketing to you got rich off these quick, easy four steps. Why aren’t they just doing that?
Why would they need to sell the process to other people for money if the process works so well?
It doesn’t.
They often claim that their only goal is to help people achieve financial freedom; if that’s the case, why not make it free?
( I understand that there are legitimate services with valuable content, I am just making generalizations about the industry)
The funny part about the toxic side of hustle culture is that it feeds off of failure. The Fake Gurus would never make any money if their clients actually got rich and successful.
The reason their advice and schemes (almost) never work is that it is too general. This is perfect for social media ads but not for the individual. Every person has something different they get passionate about and gives meaning to their life. So it’s way easier to provide some broad advice instead of sitting down with a person one on one to figure out what that is.
In a nutshell, 99% of videos you see advertising the lifestyle of private jets and tons of money are not credible, and they only want to take your money.
If you do take their advice, just please don’t buy the course first. I don’t want to see anyone lose money on something useless.
To some extent, the part about working insane hours is true. If you put in enough hours into something you are passionate about, success and money will follow.
The key is figuring out what you are passionate about. As we know, 70 hours/week at a day job you only use to pay the bills will probably make you want to pull your hair out. But, once you find something you like to work on, the hours will keep ticking away.
I know that it is really hard to find that one thing that you are passionate about. We will talk about it entirely in a different article. However, if there is something that you enjoy doing that most others don’t, it’s a good sign you have an advantage, and you should find a way to monetize it.
I hope after reading this article, you will see the shams of hustle culture and stay away from courses fake gurus are shilling all over social media. If you have someone in mind that needs to hear this, feel free to share it with them with the button down below.
Thank you for reading, have a great day, and remember to live in the moment.
Announcement: The Money Matters Letter will not be posting new articles on Fridays. We are taking that time to instead focus on higher-quality YouTube videos for people who enjoy that content style.
