What Money Can't Buy: A Philosophy of Wealth
Everyone has heard the phrase that money doesn't buy happiness. But does it?
Good morning everyone.
Money is the root of all evil.
Money can’t buy happiness.
We hear these phrases a lot, and some of us believe them. But what can’t exactly money buy? Some people live very happy lives without money, and some are miserable without it.
Money is not the same as wealth.
Money is a mere representation of wealth. Wealth is about the assets that one owns. It includes tangible assets like cash, property, stocks, and other investments. It also has intangible assets like one’s intellect, reputation, and social networks.
The difference between money and wealth is that while money can be borrowed or earned through various means (e.g., salary), one person cannot create wealth alone but must come from multiple sources over time. Wealth should also not be confused with income because it can grow over time even if your income remains stagnant or decreases in the short term.
True wealth is the ability to wake up and decide to do whatever matters most to you. Money is simply the tool that allows us the ability.
What Money Can’t Buy
What money can’t buy is peace of mind, a life without stress and worry. It doesn’t matter who you talk to; money problems don’t go away; they only get bigger.
More money, more problems.
I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase.
Thats only because over a certain dollar amount ( let’s call that 150k per year), your happiness levels start having diminishing returns. Basically, after you have all the essentials taken care of, like shelter, food, water, and income, more possessions don’t make you happier.
What money can do, when treated as a tool, is allow you the choice of doing whatever matters most to you, giving you the ultimate freedom.
Take a second to let that quote sink in.
Happiness in the concrete is so important because it is what gives us a true sense of fulfillment. The long-lasting kind of fulfillment, not the short-term high we get from crossing a materialistic milestone.
Devoting yourself utterly to money will only end in the destruction of you and the ones closest to you. The question you must answer is what gives you joy, what do you like to do.
True wealth will be acquired only when you are able to meet what you truly want to do in life and the ability to do so.
I hope everyone has a great rest of their day : )
Remember to live in the moment.
